Upcoming Launch of the New Apple TV Plus
Is AppleTV+ the new Netflix or an entirely different thing?
October 21, 2019
I’m sure all of us have heard of the term Netflix and chill, but on Nov. 1, it’s going to be about AppleTV+ and chill. Everyone knows Netflix for its seemingly infinite amount of movies and TV shows and as a top online streaming service for a monthly subscription. But now, Apple will join the industry with its new streaming service, Apple TV+, which drops Nov. 1, 2019.
The first contender, Apple, is known for its famous iPhones, AirPods, and other devices. It’s statistically proven that the majority of the smart-phone users, 41.9 percent, in the United States own an iPhone, with the runner-up being Samsung (27.8 percent). So, it is fair to say that Apple is recognized as one of the top technology corporations.
The second contender, Netflix, is the most popular streaming service. Teenagers can enjoy binge-watching shows like Stranger Things, Friends, The Office, and much more. However, the content isn’t free as Netflix currently charges $7.99 to $13.99 depending on the plan; while this might not sound expensive, Netflix plan pricings are expected to increase from $7.99 to $8.99, $10.99 to $12.99 and $13.99 to $15.99.
Apple TV+, on the other hand, is set to cost $4.99 per month when it launches Nov. 1. Not only is Apple TV+ cheaper, but this new streaming service is also being endorsed by popular celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey and Jason Mamoa.
Besides the pricing differences, Netflix and Apple TV+ are also different in function. When Netflix first started, they acquired a license to show movies or TV shows that have already been released by other companies, but Apple TV+ will have its own exclusive original shows. While Netflix later developed its own popular original shows such as Stranger Things and movies like Murder Mystery, Apple TV+ will start off with its own shows such as For All Mankind, The Morning Show, The Elephant Queen, See, and much more.
I stated earlier that the new catchphrase will be Apple TV+ and chill as a joke, but it may actually be the case. We will have to wait for Apple TV+’s launch and see if this new online streaming service will outshine Netflix. It’s hard to predict whether or not Apple can compete with Netflix, the reigning champion in the online streaming industry, but considering what Apple has achieved in its own original industry, it foreshadows AppleTV+’s potential successful future.
