IRVINE – Arnold O. Beckman High School’s 2019 Homecoming was hosted on the turf on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m.
This year’s theme followed Disney’s Up in which the dance was metaphorically held at “Paradise Falls,” a location the movie’s characters had planned to travel to. During the final hour, Homecoming King was announced to be senior Ashwin Gupta. Homecoming Queen, senior Hailey Park, was announced the night before at the Homecoming Football Game.
“Winning king was kind of surprising because I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m a nerd,” Gupta said. “But apparently, there are a lot of other nerds out there too.”
The dance had been planned months prior to the set date. The Associated Student Body (ASB) worked over the summer and after school to finalize the event, paint posters and decorate the halls.
“My homecoming experience was definitely more meaningful this year as a member of ASB,” junior Kaitlyn Sirimanne said. “I have developed more appreciation and pride in the work that ASB has done to make it a memorable and fun event for our school.”
Freshman Brendan Connally attended his first Homecoming this year.
“Before homecoming, I didn’t really know what to expect,” Connally said. “I thought it was going to be really formal, but turns out, it was the complete opposite. The dance itself was a lot of fun but very tiring.”
This year’s homecoming was one of the largest in attendance compared to past years. The next dance will be Winter Formal, which will occur in early February.
